Fall TV: CBS
Part 2 of my critique of the fall television schedules on the four major networks is CBS. Get it? I’m going in alphabetical order. Nifty, eh?
CBS is generally my channel of choice, as it were. I don’t honestly think that there isn’t something on CBS everyday that I am more than willing, if not excited, to watch. Much better than ABC.
Sunday
The Amazing Race……If there was no other reality show on television besides TAR, I would be quite satisfied. Perhaps I live vicariously through this race around the world as I haven’t traveled much at all. I should apply, shouldn’t I? Of course no one I know wants to apply too. In any case, TAR has won every Emmy for best competition reality show since the award was created. Now if Jeff Probst would stop winning best reality host so that Phil Keoghan can win, I’ll be happy. Note to CBS, cancel TAR and I’ll likely quit watching your channel. Not really, but it’s a good threat.
Monday
Two and Half Men & The Big Bang Theory……CBS is hands down the king of comedy with these two shows. I am worried about 2 1/2 Men though, with Chelsea & Charlie being engaged and Jake growing up some of the comedy seems to be sliding away. I miss Rose and little Jake, and maybe even Candy. Sheldon, Leonard and Penny are still fresh and funny.
Tuesday
NCIS & The Good Wife……NCIS is tied for the top three on my personal list of best crime shows. The personalities of the cast are so widely varied and interesting that you can’t help but like any interaction they have. It is the personalities that I like best. Somewhat surprisingly, and happily, NCIS is also the number one most watched show, beating even DWTS! The Good Wife is one of the only new shows that I watch and it is pretty good, for now at least. It will lose something if Chris Noth leaves the show.
Wednesday
The New Adventures of Old Christine, Gary Unmarried & Criminal Minds……The first two of these join the Monday night fare to make CBS king of comedy while, entirely different, Criminal Minds joins NCIS in my top 3 crime dramas. I don’t think any other crime drama looks so deeply into the criminal rather than the victim. And that’s what makes it good.
Thursday
Survivor & CSI……This is my second most iffy CBS night. Survivor is getting a bit old and tired. And I really don’t like that Russell guy so I have pretty much stopped watching. And CSI just isn’t the same without Grissom, is it?
Friday
nothing……I have honestly tried both Medium and Ghost Whisperer and I just can’t watch them.
Saturday
repeat day so…nothing
To sum it up, I like CBS very, very much except on the weekends when I have better things to do and they just seem to know that. So, note to CBS, there is only one thing you could change to make me happy. Put The Amazing Race on a different day so it isn’t always screwed up by your NFL coverage.
